Recent years have witnessed continuously rapid development in Sino-Irish economic and trade relations. The economic and trade cooperation has been intensified with its level deepened and scope expanded. According to China Customs statistics, bilateral trade volume reached $7.07 billion in 2008, a year-on-year increase of 11.1%. Due to the impact of the international economic crisis, China’s export to Ireland fell to $4.32 billion, with a 2.6% drop, while import from Ireland rose to $2.75 billion with an increase of 42.7%, which marked the largest growth since 2002. At the same time bilateral investment has also boasted a rapid development. Up to the end of 2008 there have been altogether 172 investment projects from Ireland to China with the contractual foreign investment of $705 million among which $343 million has been actually put into place. The investment from China to Ireland has maintained a moderate scale with a total of $ 26.19 million until the end of 2008.
