On November 16, 2004, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council Huang Ju who was paying a formal visit to Ireland met respectively with Irish President Mrs. Mary McAleese and Prime Minister Bertie Ahern.
During his meeting with McAleese, Huang Ju said that the current relations between China and Ireland are developing smoothly. The consensuses on developing bilateral relations reached between the President and President Hu Jintao and between the Irish Prime Minister and the Chinese Premier are being implemented. Mutual political trust between the two countries has been strengthened. Remarkable development has been reached in the cooperation in areas including economy and trade, education, science and technology, culture and health. China-Ireland relations have entered the "fast track". He pointed out that China highly prioritizes the development of relations with Ireland. My visit is aimed at pushing forward both countries to deepen and expand cooperation, discussing specific collaborative projects, and learning from Irish experience in economic and social development.
McAleese endorsed Huang Ju's comment on the relations between the two countries. She said that the good development in Ireland-China ties demonstrates that the size of a country and geographic distance should not be barriers in enhancing mutual understanding and friendship. The Irish people enjoy profound friendship with the Chinese people, and Ireland will continue to be committed to developing Ireland-China relations and EU-China relations.
In his meeting with Ahern, Huang Ju indicated that stunning achievements have been reached in China-Ireland cooperation. Both nations are making efforts to developing economy and building their countries, which provides opportunities and opened vast prospects for both countries. They should seize the opportunity, strengthen cooperation and benefit the people of the two countries. Ahem said that both Ireland and China are developing rapidly. Bilateral cooperation is strengthened continuously and trade is expanding considerably. Ireland regards China as the focus in its "Asian Strategy" and will take measures to promote cooperation in all areas between the two countries.
Huang Ju started his formal visit to Ireland after he ended the formal visit to Luxemburg on the 16th and arrived at Dublin on the same day.
