Taoiseach headed the largest ever trade mission to China

In January 2005, Mr.Bertie Ahern, the Taoiseach of Ireland, led the largest ever Trade Mission of Ireland to China. He was accompanied by three Government Ministers: Minister Micheál Martin – Enterprise, Trade and Employment; Minister Mary Coughlan – Agriculture and Food; and Minister Mary Hanafin – Education and Science.
This Trade Mission, which included representatives of 121 companies from a wide range of business sectors such as ICT, Education Services, Environmental & Engineering Services, Electronics and Food industry, availed the Irish companies of the opportunity to access the Chinese market at the highest level and strengthened the bilateral economic relations between China and Ireland. It was generally regarded as being a very successful trip with significant business concluded. Almost €126 Million in contracts for Irish companies were signed during the Mission.
