SATIR Europe (Ireland) Company Limited and IDA (Investment and Development Agency) hosted an opening ceremony in celebration of the start of SATIR’s business in Dudalk, Ireland. Irish newly appointed Tánaisten (Vice Prime Minister) and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan, Minister for Justice and former Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern, Chairman of Dundalk Town Council Jim Darcy, IDA Executive Director Dermot Clohessy, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy Xu Zhengbing and SATIR Chairman Wu Jiping attended the event and delivered speeches respectively. Around 70 people from the local commercial and industrial circles were present.
In order to show their sympathies and condolences to those died in the Sichuan Earthquake, all participants stood in silent mourning for one minute at the beginning of the ceremony.
In her speech, Tanaiste Mary Coughlan welcomed SATIR’s investment in Ireland. She said “I am pleased to welcome SATIR to Ireland as the first IDA supported Chinese company to locate in Dundalk.” She was confident that the opening of SATIR in Dundalk is the beginning of a fruitful and successful partnership with the Chinese community to match the best of Irish capabilities and talents to the needs of Chinese investors.
Minister Ahern said the SATIR investment illustrated that Dundalk has the workforce, transport and communication links attractive to entrepreneurs and business people.
The Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy Mr. Xu Zhengbing said that Ireland and China have experienced rapid growth in their economies in the last two decades that have created enormous opportunities in trade and investment. He said that the Embassy will work closely with IDA to attract more Chinese investment to Ireland.
SATIR was invited by IDA to carry out a field trip in November 2007, and decided to invest in Ireland afterwards. SATIR Europe (Ireland) was registered in April 2007, and acquired the operation certificate in May in the same year. It has a registered capital of USD 650,000, and will employ 40 people in five years’ time. The firm in Dundalk will serve as a logistic hub for assembling, marketing and developing infrared cameras. Its total investment is planned to reach USD 5 million. (Andy Tsai)
